International influence

Only Lyon, Lyon’s international slogan, created in January 2007, illustrates the Lyon urban area’s determination to assert its differences, values, identity, personality and exclusiveness on an international scale.

The strategy is supported by the 12 main economic players in the metropolis: Grand Lyon, the Département du Rhône, Lyon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Agence pour le Développement Economique de la Région Lyonnaise (Aderly), the office of tourism, Université deLyon, Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport, the Palais des Congrès, Eurexpo, the Lyon-Rhône Medef, the Rhône CGPME, the Rhône chamber of trade.

CPE Lyon has joined the Only Lyon scheme.

Centre for higher education and research

  • 2nd largest French centre for education and research.
  • 120 000 students (student web site: www.lyon-campus.org), 4 universities, 15 grandes écoles, numerous research organisations, 6,500 researchers.
  • At the beginning of the academic year 2007, the Lyon centre for research and higher education, known as the Université de Lyon ( www.universite-lyon.fr), launched a common multiservice university card for students and staff in all the member establishments, in collaboration with CROUS in Lyon and in Saint-Étienne.

Tourist city

  • Every year around 8 December, the festival of light attracts over 4 million visitors!

Business tourism is highly developed: in 2006, Lyon was home to 26,405 events with in particular the inauguration of the “Amphithéâtre”, a 3,000 seat hall in the Cité Internationale congress centre.

Rhône-Alpes region, at the heart of Europe

The Rhône-Alpes region is at the natural crossroads of the major national and European communication routes.

This situation makes it a region in which diversity is the watchword. As a geographic, climatic, sociological and cultural puzzle, it could be a handicapped but Rhône-Alpes has made it its strength.

Thought of as a symbol of dynamism within the European Union, the Rhône-Alpes region co-founded the “4 motors for Europe” network which alongside Catalonia, Lombardy and Bade-Wurtemberg, works in academic, scientific, economic, sporting and cultural fields.

The Rhône-Alpes region partners higher education establishments, including CPE Lyon of course, as well as the Alliance des Grandes Ecoles Rhône-Alpes (AGERA)- www.agera.asso.fr. It is involved in funding development operations and supports student mobility through Explo’RA Sup grants.
