Based on the 9 research laboratories and major technological resources, the research aspect is very apparent in the education provided by CPE Lyon. Consequently students complete a research project in year 4.
In the last year they can follow one of the 12 research Masters in chemistry - process engineering or electronics - telecommunications - informatics, and then follow on with a thesis.
Most laboratory researchers as well as PhD students participate in theoretical and practical teaching at the school.
The key figure
CPE Lyon produced a turnover of 4.37 M € with industry in 2006 (+ 7% in relation to 2005), which puts it in 22nd position for French schools of engineering. (See Industry and Technologies Classification October 2007
The Rhône-Alpes region is one of the nuclei in the chemicals, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, biotechnological and biomedical industries (Total, IFP, Rhodia, Aguettant, Mérial, Bio Mérieux, Sanofi Aventis / Pasteur, Arkema, Bluestar, BASF etc).
It is also at the leading edge in the field of ICTs and electronics (Thalès, Alstom, ST Microelectronics, Atari, HP, HEF, Siemens…) with clear orientations towards nanotechnologies, materials, optics and vision on the main sites (Grenoble, Lyon and Saint-Étienne).
