A new Master's specialized in "Engineering of Biotechnological Processes"

CPE Lyon and the ENSIC of Nancy are co-organizing in partnership with IPIL of Lyon (Institute of Industrial Pharmacy of Lyon), within a lifelong learning project, a specialized Master's offering the acquisition of a specialiszation in Engineering of Biotechnological Processes, or a double competence in Process Engineering and Biotechnologies.

This Master's project received its accreditation from the Conference of the Grandes Ecoles (CGE).

This course is addressed to candidates who are presently employees with professional experience who wish to work in the biotechnology domain. It is also open to graduate students with 5 years of higher education in a general or specialized subject.

The master's programme begins in January 2013.

Current programmes

> International Summer School in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering

Organised by CPE Lyon from June 10th to July 12th 2013.

The CPE Lyon part of the IPL International Summer School includes a 5-week programme of practical classes in chemistry and chemical engineering (40 hours) in addition to taking the French language classes (40 hours) and the industrial and cultural visits.
The practical classes are designed to allow students from the United States and Canada to transfer credits for the study to their home university. The practical work programme is flexible. Experiments are offered in Chemical Engineering and Analytical Chemistry. Some experiments will be open-ended allowing students to go deeper into the particular aspect of the subject concerned. A programme oriented towards chemistry students and a programme oriented towards chemical engineering students is provided. All students will have free access to the Internet. Accommodation is provided for the five weeks of the Summer School.

The total cost to students is 1800 Euros. A reduction of 100 Euro is offered to students who register and pay before April 30, 2013. This covers all tuition costs, the costs of the industrial and cultural visits, and accommodation for the five weeks in a residence hall. The cost of meals and local transport is not included (but students will have access to the dining halls with meal plans).

This is a tremendous opportunity to gain an international experience, to improve your scientific knowledge and practical skills, and to learn the French language. Only a very basic prior knowledge of French is necessary. The practical classes will be given in English when necessary, and, for the language study, students will be divided into groups depending on their ability. A class for beginners will be available. The laboratory experiments offered are given on the following pages. Any students interested in this course are invited to contact Maria-Angelina Beaucourt (maria-angelina.beaucourt@cpe.fr) if further information is required.

In May, June and July 2013, CPE Lyon will be welcoming around 60 students from Singapore and the USA together with treir professors on different summer schools.

The EURIP Programme (European Immersion Program) with the National Unicversity of Singapore: chemistry and chemical engineering programme, will run from May 21st to June 17th and will welcome 30 undergraduate and master's students and 2 professors.

The BEST Programme (Biomolecular Engineering, Science and Techology Study Abroad Programme in Lyon) with the Georgia institute of Technology (Georgiatech, Atlanta, USA), will be attended by 22 students with one trainee and their professor. The undergraduate students will do chemistry practicals from may 31st to July 15th.

In addition, during each programme, there will be practical work in chemical engineering, analytical chemistry and organic synthesis, together with French courses, cultural visits (Beaujolais, Vieux-Lyon, and the Musée Lumière, etc), and scientific visits (The CERN in Geneva, IRCE Lyon, the NMR Center, L'oréal in Paris , and joint laboratories in CPE Lyon).

Yes, you've got there!

Whether you come from special preparatory classes or from a university technology course, or from a university, whether you're a born chemist or a budding electronics engineer through and through, we're very pleased to welcome you in Year 3 at CPE Lyon for this coming academic year.

Next D-Day is Monday 10th September 2012 at 8.30. We will be waiting for you!

Programme:

On 10th September, everyone, - the administrative staff, the Students' Union staff and of course, even our own national brass band! - will be here to welcome you as from the start of the morning!

A welcoming breakfast (offered by the Students' Union) awaits you between 8.30 and 10.00. At 10 o'clock, in the large amphitheatre, Gérard PIGNAULT, the Director of CPE Lyon, will address and welcome you.

After that, what with the administrative procedures, the first contacts with your fellow 'refreshers', and contacts with the 'older' students, it looks like yuor timetable will be quite busy!

The Students'Union Committee has prepared an unforgettable integration programme just for you!

Double diplomas: a springboard for your international career!

With appropriate language preparation, you have the possibility of obtaining two diplomas:

CPE Lyon engineer diploma and 1 of these diplomas issued by a partner university (in this case, tuition fees are paid only to CPE Lyon).

In Chemistry - Chemical Engineering

Diploma “Ingeniero Quimica industrial y Medio Ambiente” at the ETSII of Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, in Spain.

Duration: 18 months
Number of ECTS credits: 60 ECTS credits for the course + 30 ECTS credits for the end of course project
The end of course project takes place in an enterprise in Spain… or in the country of your choice, as approved by the ETSII.

Diploma « Diplom-Chemiker(in) Univ. » from Julius-Maximilians Universität Würzburg, in Germany.

Fields concerned: organic, inorganic and physical chemistry, materials, biochemistry.
Duration: 18 months.
German examination to be passed for admission to the course
Number of ECTS credits: 60 ECTS credits for the course + 30 ECTS credits for the end of course project

The programme organised with the university of Würzburg is funded by the Université Franco-Allemande. Students receive a grant of 4,250 euros for the period of the study (18 months).

In Electronics – Telecommunications - Computer science

Duration: 18 months.
Number of ECTS credits: 60 ECTS credits for the course + 30 ECTS credits for the end of course project

Double diplomas in Europe are also part of the Erasmus programme and so are funded by the Erasmus grant: approximately 130 euros per month for 3 to 12 months.

Masters of Science

In addition to the CPE Lyon engineer diploma, students at the school are also offered the opportunity of taking a “Master of Science” (MSc) at an English or American university, or a “PhD”, subject to taking and passing the English tests (tuition fees are paid only to CPE Lyon – you are exonerated from the cost of the Master wherever you take it):

All fields of chemistry and process engineering are open to you in the research groups of renowned university laboratories.

Practically all CPE Lyon’s partner American universities will accept you under very advantageous financial conditions for a “Masters of Science”, “Masters of Engineering” or ”PhD”:

Teaching Assistantship or Research Assistantship grants (between 1200 and 1800 USD).
Enrolment fees completely covered in the American university (as an indication one year will cost up to 35,000 USD).

Year 5 of the CPE Lyon engineering course is merged with the first two years of “MSc” or “PhD”. The engineer diploma is obtained after at least 18 months in the university and at least 6 months conducting a research project in the laboratory.

CPE Lyon actively participates in several European networks and organisations:

European Chemistry Thematic Network Association (ECTN):

Since 1996 Anthony SMITH, director of International Relations at CPE Lyon, has been the co-ordinator of the European Chemistry Thematic Network Association (ECTN), which is a network with 160 members in around thirty European countries that aims to promote chemistry education and assessment in Europe.

CHEMEPASS:

CPE Lyon co-ordinates a working group of 12 European higher education chemistry and process engineering institutions. This group developed CHEMEPASS, since 1987an institutional contract, Erasmus Charter for 2007-2013.

Erasmus placement programme:

A mobility contract was signed with the Institut Polytechnique de Lyon in 1995.

Leonardo da Vinci programme, Erasmus contract:

"English for Special Purposes : Chemistry",since 2003.

Programme TransAtlantic Science Student Exchange Program (TASSEP):

This programme has promoted student exchanges between Europe and North America since 2004.

Francophone course in Saint-Petersburg via the Institut Polytechnique de Lyon:

CPE Lyon participates in a project with three other schools in the Institut Polytechnique de Lyon (ECAM, ISARA, ITECH) on Francophone courses in Saint Petersburg.

In the framework of this project, after 3 or 4 years of being taught in French in Saint Petersburg Russian students come to CPE Lyon for 2 or 3 years to obtain an engineer diploma.

Réseau n+i:

It has around fifty French school of engineering members.

The objective is to attract high potential international students that have obtained a Bachelor in their home country to take an engineer diploma (Master) in 2 years (including a transitional semester).

Every year there are usually over 600 applicants. The Director of CPE Lyon, Gérard PIGNAULT, is a member of the network’s governing body.
